Golden Pheasant,
Chrysolophus pictus |
|
|
|
|
|
Husbandry: |
It is very easy to keep Golden
Pheasants in an aviary. They are hardy and need not
necessarily a closed cot. In this case, the aviary has to be marten
safe. Due to the small size they are otherwise a good prey animal
for martens. |
|
|
| |
But if you have a closed cot for the night and you
take care that the will stay all night inside, then the aviary
design can be little bit more liberal. |
|
|
| |
The cocks are starting in the mating season from
April until the end of June very early morning with the mating
canto. This is in a closed cot of course no problem. |

|
Cot: |
Golden Pheasants are hardy and
so their are no special requirements for the cot. It has to be dry
and draught free. Golden pheasants like to sit high, therefore the
perch should be arranged high. |

Feed: |
Even when feeding the animals is not very
demanding. In the aviary they are already looking for something. We
provide them only a little extra wheat grain or a mix feed for
chickens. In the trade is also ready
mixed pheasant feed available.
For delicacies like mealworms they are always
to inspire. |

Breeding: |
The hen lays down
5-10 eggs in a soil and breeds the eggs in 25 days. After a few
weeks, it is possible to see the sex. The hens lose increasing the
juvenile plumage and are similar to her mother.
The young cocks
are brown in the first year and starting in the next spring to get
coloured. In the second year they are then completely coloured and
full-grown. |
